ISLAMABAD :Foreign minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi met with Tunisian Foreign minister Othman Jerandi on the sideline of the 48th Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) Council of Foreign ministers scheduled in Islamabad for March 23, 2022. The two sides discussed the entire gamut of bilateral relations and regional issues of mutual interest.
Foreign minister Qureshi underscored that Pakistan attaches importance to its longstanding and brotherly ties with Tunisia that were based on common interests and shared values. He appreciated Tunisia’s support for prime minister Imran Khan’s initiative on countering Islamophobia.
The two Foreign ministers reviewed the progress made in various areas of bilateral cooperation since the last session of the Bilateral Political Consultations was held in March 2021. The two aides emphasized the importance of advancing negotiations on the proposed Pakistan-Tunisia Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA).
Foreign minister Qureshi and Foreign minister Jerandi also agreed to convene the 10th Session of the Pakistan-Tunisia Joint Commission during the second half of 2022.
Recalling the history of close coordination between the two countries on international forums, Foreign minister Qureshi appreciated Tunisia’s role in promoting regional peace and security as well its principled stance on the Jammu and Kashmir dispute at the United Nations (UN) and the OIC.
The two sides agreed to maintain regular, high-level exchanges with a view to further advancing bilateral cooperation in the economic, trade and security spheres.
