ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to boosting its information technology (IT) exports to $25 billion within the next three years and rolling out 5G Internet services.
Speaking with a delegation from VEON, an Amsterdam-based multinational telecommunications and digital services company, Sharif emphasized that 5G services would play a crucial role in realizing the vision of a “Digital Pakistan” and be instrumental in fostering a cashless, digital economy.
“We are determined to achieve the target of increasing IT exports from Pakistan to $25 billion in the next three years,” Sharif said, according to a statement from his office. “Efforts are already underway to introduce 5G Internet services for faster and more reliable connectivity in Pakistan.”

The Prime Minister also lauded the contributions of Jazz Group, a VEON subsidiary, and reiterated his government’s commitment to advancing IT, digitization, and artificial intelligence (AI) in the country.
The VEON delegation praised Pakistan’s efforts to stabilize its economy and highlighted the country as a key investment destination for the IT sector, according to Sharif’s office.

In June, Pakistan’s IT exports reached $298 million, marking a 33 percent year-on-year increase. For the fiscal year ending in June, total IT exports amounted to $3.2 billion, up 24 percent from $2.5 billion the previous year.
Pakistan has also sought to strengthen its IT sector by fostering partnerships with international firms, particularly from Saudi Arabia, China, and Qatar, as part of its broader push to increase exports.
