Saudi Theater and Performing Arts Commission participates in Avignon festival in France

Featuring the Play "Tawq" and a Variety of traditional , contemporary performances

Riyadh- (Avignon, France) — July 9, 2025: The Saudi Theater and Performing Arts Commission is set to participate in the 79th edition of the renowned Avignon Festival in France, taking place from July 14 to 22, 2025, where this year’s festival shines a spotlight on the Arabic language.

As part of its participation, the Commission will present four traditional performing arts along with a theatrical performance of the play “Tawq”. The featured traditional arts include Al-Khatwah, Al-Khubaiti, Al-Liwa, and the ‘Ardah of Wadi Al-Dawasir. Through this presence, the Commission aims to highlight the richness of Saudi performing arts and promote contemporary Saudi theater to a global audience, fostering opportunities for cultural exchange.

The play “Tawq” is a product of the STAR Program, an initiative by the Theater and Performing Arts Commission to support and produce local theatrical works. Tawq earned the Best Contemporary Performance Award at the second edition of the Riyadh Theater Festival in 2024.

Directed by Fahad Al-Dosari, Tawq features a talented Saudi cast including Ahmed Al-Dhikrallah, Fatima Al-Jishi, Maryam Hussein, Abdulaziz Al-Zayani, Khalid Al-Huwaidi, and Shihab Al-Shihab.

The Commission’s participation in the Avignon Festival marks a significant step in showcasing the creativity and diversity of Saudi performing arts on the international stage.
