Islamabad, July 14, 2021: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has termed the statement of Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin in which he alleged NAB as hurdle in workings of bureaucracy as baseless, misleading and contrary to the facts.
NAB while denying the allegation of Tarin’s statememt ,
alleging that “bureaucracy is not working due to fear of NAB” said some 1,273 references having total volume of
Rs 1,300 billion are under trial in different accountability courts. Out of which very negligible references are against bureaucracy and such malicious propaganda against NAB is an attempt to tarnish the image of NAB and also aimed at discouraging the bureaucracy.
NAB has said that bureaucracy is the jugular vein of any country and NAB not only respected bureaucracy but also acknowledged the services of them.
Chairman NAB has served the country in different capacities including acting Chief Justice of Pakistan and he is quite well versed with the issues of bureaucracy.
The chairman NAB after taking the responsibilities of present position in 2017, had addressed federal secretaries at Cabinet Division, Islamabad, Federal secretaries, provincial secretaries of Punjab in Lahore and Provincial Secretaries of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in Peshawar and answered the questions of satisfactorily. It was part of record the bureaucracy had felicitated the chairman NAB which was published by newspapers and telecast by leading TV channels.
It merits mentioning here that NAB was established in 1999 for eradication of corruption and recovery of looted money from corrupt elements. NAB had recovered Rs 286.755 billion directly and indirectly from 1999 to 2016. Whereas under the leadership of Honourable Mr. Justice Javed Iqbal chairman NAB, NAB has recovered Rs. 502 billion directly and indirectly from 2017 to 2020 which is reflected in the annual performance report of 2020 of NAB which is very much available at website of NAB.
The National Anti Corruption Strategy devised by chairman NAB is being acknowledged as most effective strategy. NAB is focal organisation under UN convention against corruption (UNCAC). NAB is chairman of Saarc Anti Corruption Forum. NAB’s performance is lauded by reputed national and international organisations like Transparency International Pakistan, World Economic Forum, Global Peace, Canada, PILDAT and MISHAL Pakistan. As per Gilani and Gallup Survey, 59 percent people have shown trust upon NAB. NAB is the only institute in the world which has signed anti corruption MoU with China. Corruption is the mother of all evils and eradication of corruption today has become demand of the countrymen. Chairman NAB has rejuvenated NAB for materializing the dream of corruption free Pakistan. NAB is a human friendly institute which strongly believed in protecting self esteem of all people. NAB and bureaucracy both are working for the country. Bureaucracy needed not to fear, if working under relevant laws and following set procedure. NAB has affiliation with state of Pakistan. NAB officers strongly believed in eradication of corruption.
NAB and Pakistan can go together but NAB and corruption can’t go together. NAB does not care about any propaganda and believed in concentrating to perform its duties. NAB has advices the minister to have a look over NAB ordinance 1999 enacted after approval of the parliament. Also the Supreme Court has already reviewed the NAB ordinance in Asfandyar Wali case.
