Las Vegas, October 18, 2024: Democrat Kamala Harris hopes to add some political star power in the final run-up to election day in November by campaigning alongside Barack and Michelle Obama for the first time in separate events next week, a senior campaign official said.
The former president and his wife are still very well-liked by the Democratic base and are anticipated to be successful closers in the closing stages of a campaign that depends on devoted Democrats’ turnout in places with narrow margins of victory.
Harris and Michelle Obama will make their first appearances as campaigners this election cycle on Saturday, October 26 in Michigan. During her blunt speech at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago earlier this year, the former first lady accused Trump of inciting fear to gain power.
Harris will campaign alongside Barack Obama in Georgia on Thursday of next week. He has been touring the battleground states, including Tucson, Las Vegas, Detroit, and Madison. He just performed alone in Pittsburgh.
After his first campaign event, Barack Obama faced criticism for telling several Black men that they weren’t “feeling the idea of having a woman as president.”
According to his detractors, his tone threatens to blame some of the Democratic Party’s most dependable followers, alienating people who may have lost faith but are still receptive.
As the party’s 2024 standard-bearer, Kamala Harris supported her behind the scenes by supporting Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign.
