The definition of terrorism is when fear is created in the hearts of innocent citizens, specifically children, but when it comes from those who are paid to protect, it makes one’s mind boggle. This is what a student from my alma mater, Presentation Convent Public School Sangota, Swat, sent me on my messenger.

I hope this message finds you in good health. I would like to inform you that the post recently shared is authentic and has been officially confirmed. I have previously worked with the district administration, and this message was circulated by the Personal Assistant of the Assistant Commissioner. In light of this, it would be prudent to request enhanced security measures rather than waiting for any unfortunate incident in the future. Taking timely precautions can help ensure the safety and well-being of everyone on campus.

I’m sure this threat alert issued from the office of Deputy Commissioner, Swat, will make Miangul Jehanzeb, the late Wali of Swat, laugh in his grave. He single-handedly administered Buner, Shangla, and Swat, which is now split into four different districts: Buner, Swat, Upper Swat, and Shangla, with four deputy commissioners. Still, they are unable to maintain peace and have to rely on such threat alerts to evade responsibility.
Public School Sangota, Swat, has suffered two such shameful incidents in the past. Once, the school was bombed and razed to the ground, and its furniture was looted right under the nose of the administration on whose advice the school was closed. Again, on 16 May 2023, a Swat police constable fired on nursery students for no reason, killing a nursery student, Ayesha.
The people of Swat, particularly old students of Public School Sangota, Swat, will no longer tolerate such irresponsible threat alerts creating fear in the hearts of innocent children and their families. It is the responsibility of the state to protect its citizens, and students of Public School Sangota, Swat, are no exception.
Swat and its incompetent administration have already earned enough bad publicity, and one can only hope there is no such foolishness to earn it bad international publicity after Public School Sangota, Swat, is once more targeted and becomes international headlines across the world.
In case the incompetent administration is unable to protect the girls’ school with all its sophisticated arms and ammunition and numerous agencies, then we, the former students, volunteer to protect the future of our children on our own by taking the security of the school into our own hands.
