Lahore : August 11 ,2024 : Amidst tight security, Pakistan ‘s national hero ,the winner of gold medal for Pakistan in historic Javelin throw at Paris Olympics , Arshad Nadeem , had reached his hometown, Mian Channu , in Punjab Pakistan. Arshad Nadeem has re-written history by throwing his javelin at 92.97 meters first ever in the history of Olympics. Arshad Nadeem , 27 comes from a poor family of Mian Channu , a small district in north-wet of Lahore, Punjab . Arshad ‘s father , Mohammad Ashraf, was a labourer for construction industry. Seeing talent and height with good physique, Arshad Nadeem was primarily funded and supported by locals of his city and relatives for training to become a good javelin . Javelin throw was little known to Pakistanis. There was no any academy in Pakistan when Arshad decided to opt this game for his career . Arshad Nadeem experienced many ups and down in his journey of an athlete. His hard work and love for game of javelin throw opened a new world for him when he performed in Asian games in 2016. During the last eight years , Arshad recorded himself as a good athlete by giving commendable performance as athlete . He touched his 90 meter mark in 2023 to become the first Asian athletes to make history as a javelin thrower . But his best was yet to come . Although Arshad had lesser chances of coaching and other facilities as compared to world-famed athletes ,but confident Arshad kept on overcoming all handles which came on his way and kept on focusing on his game . Finally , the moment which he was looking for struck for him at Paris Olympics in javelin throw final . Arshad Nadeem cruised into javelin final . The final fight was set for August 8 and his main competitor was Neeraj Chopra of India ,who was a current champion. Chopra was too looking well he had performed his best at qualifying round . At Paris Olympics , millions were waiting anxiously to see who wins Neeraj or Arshad. For final on August 8 all competitors were ready to give their best . In the begining , Arshad ‘s first throw was declared foul and then in the second he changed the face of the game . His 92.97 meter throw had set a new record . He had become the hero for Pakistan. Every Pakistani was jubilant over Arshad’s victory. Arshad ‘s matchless performance at Paris Olympics not only brought a gold medal for Pakistan but it also ended a long phase of depression in Pakistanis . On return as a hero , Arshad has been accorded a tumultuous welcome which he deserves. He is also being rewarded for his great performance at Paris Olympics. One hopes, Arshad ‘s heroic reception and respect that Pakistani nation has bestowed upon him will open a new world for young Pakistani to excel in sports.
