GABBA, Brisbane – November 14, 2024: The first T20 International match between Australia and Pakistan has been delayed due to rainfall in Brisbane.
The match, originally scheduled to begin on time, was halted moments before the toss as a powerful thunderstorm swept through the area.
Dark skies, loud thunder, and close lightning strikes were reported by fans at the stadium and in the surrounding areas, contributing to mounting concerns about the weather’s impact on play.

Local resident Frank Zane described the storm, saying, “That was the loudest thunderclap I’ve ever heard… the sky over the Gabba is all dark.
Ground staff are closely monitoring the conditions, with heavy rain expected to persist throughout the evening.
The latest possible start time for a reduced five-over match is 8:30 pm local time, although weather trackers indicate the storm could continue for a longer period, raising doubts about the feasibility of any play tonight.

As the Gabba pitch remains covered, the match will only proceed if conditions improve in time. With both teams and spectators awaiting developments, there is growing concern that the storm may force the cancellation of the opening game of Pakistan’s tour of Australia.
