Washington: One of the daughters of Republican former US President George W. Bush, Barbara Bush, reported to People magazine that she had campaigned for Democrat Kamala Harris over the weekend and endorsed her in the incredibly close battle for the White House.
In Pennsylvania, one of the swing states that will determine the outcome of the November election between Republican Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Harris, Barbara spent a part of the weekend knocking on doors for the vice presidential campaign.
She said, “It was inspiring to join friends and meet voters with the Harris-Walz campaign in Pennsylvania this weekend. I’m hopeful they’ll move our country forward and protect women’s rights.”
Although Barbara Bush is considered an independent, her family is undoubtedly Republican royalty because her late grandfather, George H.W. Bush, was also president.

Trump’s aggressive language on everything from abortion to migration and democracy has driven off a small but loud number of prominent Republicans who have endorsed Harris.
During his tenure in the White House from 2001 to 2009, George W. Bush has stayed silent on politics for several of his post-presidential career and declined to support a candidate in 2024.
However, Dick Cheney, his vice president, and his daughter, Liz Cheney, a former Republican representative, have already endorsed Harris and campaigned alongside him.
Barbara Bush, whose fraternal twin sister Jenna works for NBC, has previously advocated for Planned Parenthood, the nation’s top reproductive health organization, and has been vocal about her views on abortion.

Trump boasted that his choices for justices on the Supreme Court helped to overturn Roe v. Wade and eliminate federal protections for access to abortion.
Abortion is one of the main themes in this election because at least 20 US states have implemented full or partial restrictions since that court decision in 2022.
