*Toy*!!

The ongoing political crisis may appear strange to many, but few have considered the fact that wielding power without sufficient background knowledge is akin to placing a gun in the hands of a child who treats it as a toy. Consequently, disaster becomes an inevitable consequence of the child’s play. Statecraft, however, is not a mere plaything; it holds the lives and livelihoods of millions dependent on the social system to survive.

I am indebted to Prince Akbar Zeb, an erudite and cultured prince from Swat, who is a seasoned diplomat and the grandson of the last Wali of Swat, Maj. Gen Abdul Haq Jehanzeb, through his son Prince Alam Zeb. Prince Akbar Zeb shared with me a book titled “The Social Organization Of The Yousafzai Swat,” authored by the esteemed Professor Makhdum Tassaduq Ahmad, a former lecturer at Jehanzeb College Swat. On the basis of this well-researched book, Professor Makhdum Tassaduq Ahmad was awarded a doctorate degree by Punjab University .

Of great significance is the evolution of the social structure of the Yousafzai tribe, who settled in Swat and later established their own modern state based on distinct parameters aimed at safeguarding the interests of all segments of society. This transformation allowed the primitive social structure to evolve into a successful modern state, which became the envy of the world for its potential for progress and prosperity.

The book delves into how the society catered to the interests of its artisans, including cobblers, carpenters, musicians, businessmen, mullahs, land tillers, and the militia sepoys maintained by local village chieftains for the welfare of their respective villages. I ponder over whether these uneducated and insular individuals from the past possessed a better understanding of taking care of the needs of every member of society. Contrastingly, our country and society seem to believe that we will progress and prosper while remaining in a deep slumber, while every segment of society suffers. Our state and its leaders engage in a power struggle that leads the country and society to the precipice of collective economic and social destruction.

Meanwhile, those who continue to support society with their blood and toil are left to suffer. Consequently, many seek refuge in foreign countries to escape the ongoing madness and the methods behind it, which serve the selfish few at the expense of the masses.
